On Thursday 05 December 2019, Cambridge Central Mosque held its Opening Ceremony.
The inauguration began with recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Imam Ali Tos, accompanied by an English translation from Imam Sejad Mekić. Keynote speeches were delivered by Yusuf Islam (Mosque Patron), Shahida Rahman (Trustee), Dagmar Winter (Bishop of Huntingdon), Imam Ali Erbaş (President of Diyanet, the Directorate of Religious Affairs in Turkey), and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (President of Turkey). More than 400 guests attended the occasion, including Cambridge Mayor Gerri Bird and Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Mayor James Palmer.
Guests were able to enjoy the harmonies in the Atrium and the newly-installed Islamic Science Exhibition, as well as the Calligraphy and Tile Displays.
