The Indonesian Ulema Council has announced an accelerated Eco-Mosque Programme, to be directed by the Council’s Office of Environment and Natural Resources. Mosques all over Indonesia can apply to the Council for support in installing rainwater harvesting systems and solar cells, together with khutba materials on environmental issues and climate change. Safe waste disposal strategies from mosques are also covered by the programme. One of the first targets for the programme is 3817 mosques in the Jakarta area.
